A model cel from the Disney Studios animated short "The Art of Self Defense" (1941). Featuring the aptly named Goofy throwing a punch, the hand-painted cel was created at the studio and used during the animation process. Model cels are created during production in the same manner as screen shot production cels, but are used for reference by the animators and ink and paint department to ensure consistent character design and color usage for characters in a production. Measuring 10"x12" overall, with the character image measuring 4.25"x5", the cel is in very good condition with minor surface wear, paper transfer on the reverse of the paint, and visible rippling and shrinking from age. The piece is paired with a color printed reproduction background for presentation purposes.
